The Moth

The other day, a moth was flying in my office at work. I am on the second floor no where near an open window or door so not sure how it ended up in my office. I was able to snatch the moth out of the air and then I made for the external doors to let it go out side.

I could feel it trying to claw its way out my clenched fist as I headed down the stairs. I reached the door to the out side and opened my hand. The moth stood there for a moment on the end of my fingers maybe in disbelief that it was finally free from this unexpected imprisonment. It flew off and lived to see another day.

Have you ever felt trapped in something trying to claw your way out? This is our story when it comes to a relationship with the Creator. There are times we find ourselves in places we should not be. God will swoop in and ensnare us and prevent us from harm. He restrains us for a period of time knowing that we will soon be set free. We like the moth on the other hand, do not understand and are trying like crazy to break free. We use all of our strength to try and escape to no avail.

And then without any action on our part, we are free of the trap and able to fly away.

Proverbs tells us why we get trapped

The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires. Proverbs 11:6

The moth did not understand how he got trapped and what his fate would be. Just like us we do not understand but if we have faith, we know we are being held by our God in his hand protecting us from ourselves and the world around us and being carried to a place of safety.

For the moth, that 90 second trip from my office to the outside must have seemed like an eternity and his fear and anxiety were probably at its peak! But the time did come when he was free to fly away to safety.

The Lord our God will save us just like I saved the moth. Isaiah tells us so:

say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” Isaiah 35:4

So if you find yourself ensnared or restrained in life, just remember the story of the moth. Your own vain attempts to break free will be fruitless. Have faith in the Hand that surrounds you and know you will soon be let go and be free.

And that is the Whole Truth!

Have a wonderful rest of the week and may God bless you in your ongoing walk with Him.

And remember,

God always answers His kneemail.
