I once heard someone preach that even if there were only one righteous person on the Earth, Jesus would have still sacrificed his life for that one person. Hard to believe? Probably not when we look to the Scriptures.
In Genesis 18, the Lord and His angels visit Abraham. They are on their way to Sodom to destroy it for all of the perversion occurring therein. Abraham inquires of the Lord to save the righteous.
“Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
The Lord responds that he will spare the ENTIRE city if He finds Fifty righteous.. Amazing Love
So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”
Abraham goes on to kinda poke at the Lord, "What about 45, 40, 30,20. Abraham knows he is in jeopardy of making God angry with him in this line of questioning.
Finally he gets to his last plea in the chapter:
Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?”
And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.
As we know from history, apparently there were not ten righteous in the city and God destroyed it. I believe Abraham could have gone down to one and the answer would have been the same " I will not destroy it for the sake of one" This is the Love of God.
The reverse could be said of the sacrifice of Jesus. Lord will you die for sake of 50? 40? 30? 20? or even 10? The answer would have been the same. I would die for the sake of 10. To expand on this from above, I believe He would have said I will die for the sake of one!
It is hard to fathom that the Creator of the universe would come to this sin filled world and sacrifice His life on the cross just so you and you alone could have eternal life. But it is true! This is the Love of God.
Fortunately, The Bible tells us their will be a multitude in Heaven too large to count to praise the King and His accomplishment. Great Love is this that you lay down your life for your brother. Thank you Lord for loving us sooo much..
And that is the Whole Truth!
Have a wonderful rest of the week and may God bless you in your ongoing walk with Him.
And remember,
God always answers His kneemail.
