Second Chances

This week, world renown scientist and ecologist David Goodall decided to end his life. At 104, his quality of life had diminished to a point where he did not want to go on any further. He lived in Australia but traveled to Basel, Switzerland where assisted suicide is legal.

He told the Australian broadcaster ABC, “I greatly regret having reached that age.” David Goodall is not terminally ill but says his quality of life has deteriorated so badly that he has no reason to live. Asked if he was happy, he responded: “I’m not happy. I want to die.

So here is a man who is a scientist and probably did not believe in God. Being a botanist, one would think he would see the magnificence in God's handiwork. No where in his biography or obituary does it speak of his relationship with God. Why do men and women live so long when it could potentially lead to a diminished existence? Why not just call it quits at 90?

I believe God is giving them numerous opportunities to have a relationship with Him.

There are a lot of people in Dr Goodall's place who continue to live but would probably rather die. My belief is that if there is still air in your lungs, God has a purpose for you. If you have not developed a relationship with God, every new day is an opportunity to do so. No matter your past, God is always willing to forgive.

There are plenty of examples of second chances in the Bible. God forgave Moses, David, Saul, Peter and the list goes on of those who sinned against God but were given second chances.

in Matthew 18

Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”

Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."

God wants to have a relationship with you and no matter your past is willing to forgive and start fresh with you tomorrow. Don't wait until you are 104 to do it. Do it today. Ask Him to forgive you your trespasses and start down the path of redemption and a wonderful future.

Thank God for second chances and third chances and 490th chances.. May we be as forgiving to our fellow man and woman as He is towards us.

Will David Goodall have a future with God on His return? We will have to wait and see but He sure kept him around long enough for him to find Him. Don't let that be you.

And that is the Whole Truth

God Bless and remember

God always answers His knee mail
